About This Opportunity
**Studio Winter 2026: Bushwick Gallery Residency**
This winter, Bushwick Gallery offers a rare invitation: uninterrupted time to create. Led by Christopher M. Liatsis (Painted Bull Studios), this month-long residency focuses on the in-between — the moment when ideas are still forming.
Three artists will join Liatsis in an open-plan gallery studio (8 AM–8 PM), embracing process as the work itself. The program includes curatorial guidance and culminates in a **shared group showcase exhibition** — no sales, but strong promotion and the chance to show your work in a NYC gallery setting.
No housing or stipends are provided. What you get is something harder to find: time, space, visibility, and the freedom to explore without the pressure to finish.
What You'll Get
Types: EXHIBITION
**Studio Winter: Bushwick Gallery Residency 2026** As the city sharpens under winter’s edge, **Bushwick Gallery** opens its doors for **Studio Winter**, a month-long residency led by **Christopher M. Liatsis (Painted Bull Studios)**. This season’s program extends directly from Liatsis’s ongoing exploration of unfinished work — the sketches, revisions, and dreamlike fragments that precede resolution. In this spirit, Studio Winter invites three visual artists to join Liatsis in examining process as art itself: tracing the gestures, hesitations, and unconscious decisions that give form to imagination. Rather than emphasizing completion, the residency celebrates the beauty of work in flux — abstraction meeting surrealism in a shared space of curiosity and transformation. Artists are granted access to an open-plan studio within the gallery, available daily from 8 AM to 8 PM. While the residency does not include housing or a financial stipend, it offers something increasingly rare in New York’s art world: uninterrupted time in a professional gallery setting, with curatorial mentorship and institutional support. **Selection Panel:** To be decided. **Studio Winter** culminates in a one-night, non-commercial public showcase — an intimate presentation of process, where unfinished works, spontaneous studies, and visual experiments reveal the inner architecture of making. This is a residency for artists who find meaning in the in-between — those who see potential in fragments, who honor the quiet uncertainty of creation. In the stillness of winter, this is your time to work. Let the world fall away. Let the work rise. **Christopher M. Liatsis** leads Bushwick Gallery’s residency program as both participant and curator. His vision centers on the interplay between conscious and unconscious creation — an exploration of how abstraction and surrealism converge through process. Rather than focusing on finished works, Liatsis foregrounds the act of making itself. Through automatic drawings, evolving dreamscapes, and fragments of myth, memory, and reverie, he traces the fluid movements of imagination as they materialize on paper and canvas. Under his guidance, the residency becomes a laboratory for open-ended experimentation — a space where selected artists are invited to embrace uncertainty, revision, and discovery as essential components of artistic practice. This program invites viewers to witness art in its formative state, revealing how creation emerges not from resolution, but from exploration. “The process is not a prelude to the work — it is the work. Studio Winter is about staying inside that moment when ideas are still forming, when urgency gives way to intuition, and the act of making becomes its own conclusion.” — _Gina Keatley, Owner of Bushwick Gallery_
