About This Opportunity

Since 2019, the laureate of the Audience Award of the National Competition is automatically selected for the European Short Film Audience Award (ESFAA) : a tour of audience awards from 10 European short film festivals ( Brussels Short Film Festival, Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival, Lviv International Short Film Festival Wiz Art, Interfilm International Film Festival Berlin, ALCINE - Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival, Short Waves Festival, Go Short International Short Film Festival Nijmegen ).

Since 2018, the BSFF has been officially recognized as an Oscar® Qualifying Festival. Winners of the main prizes in the International and National Competitions are eligible for Oscar® pre-selection in the categories Best Live Action and Best Animated Short Film (provided the films comply with the Academy's rules).

All films submitted to the festival will be available to professionals through the Short Film Market.

For the NATIONAL COMPETITIONs: ♦ The film's production house must be located in Belgium ♦ Films may not be longer than 40 minutes, all genres are accepted ♦ Films must be finished or have had their 1st public screening after November 1st 2024 ♦ **Working versions will be accepted provided that the film is finished in time for the Festival, in case of selection** ♦ Films must be available on non-encrypted DCP 2K (named after the Digital Cinema Naming Convention) and on mp4\. – 20 to 30 Mbs - 1920 x 1080 ♦ **To be eligible for the National Competition, a film must not have been shown in Brussels in the two months preceding the Festival** (with the exception of the team screenings necessary for the finalization of the film) **♦ Films produced in 2024 must be registered before January 15th 2026** **For the** INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONs: ♦ Films may not exceed 30 minutes, all genres are accepted ♦ Films must have been completed or had their 1st public screening after November 1st 2024 ♦ Films must be available on non-encrypted DCP 2K (named after the Digital Cinema Naming Convention) and on mp4\. – 20 to 30 Mbs - 1920 x 1080 ♦ For the screener, the film must be understandable in English (for an English-language film, you can send the film with or without French subtitles, for all other languages, English subtitles are mandatory) ♦ If selected, the screening file must be understandable in English (with English subtitles if English is not the language of the film) **♦ Films completed between November and December 2024 must be registered by January 15th 2026**
