Urban Arts Residency in Mexico

Asociación Jupiterfab is an independent oganization which was created in November 2014 to support art projects and artists working on projects with social impact. During our residency, we offer artists the opportunity to be live and work in Downtown Guadalajara, Colonia Americana (Mexico). We can host up to 4 artists. We encourage artists to work on projects related with the area and the community around the residence and/or social topics, such as gentrification, equality,immigration, social justice, poverty, homeless people… Nevertheless, this is not a binding criteria. At the end of their stay, the artists will have the chance to have a final exhibit/event in our space. Guadalajara is the second biggest city in Mexico (8 millions people) but it still feels like a big town. It has a great climate (mild-hot during the day – cool and fresh at night) and it surrounded by beautiful places to visit. The residency is surrounded by a vivid community, full of artists and craftsmen, close to galleries, historic buildings as much as bars and restaurants. All it is walking distance. **_Duration of residency_** One to six months.We usually encourage the artists to stay at least 2 months to have an immersive experience. **_Accommodation_** The residency is in an old colonial house completely renewed in downtown Guadalajara.The house can host up to 4 artists in residency (living and studio). We offer 3 spaces to work and live. **Accepted medias\_** Street Art, Visual Art, Literature, Photography, Architecture, Sculpture, Curator, Filmmaker, Research, Textile work, Performance, Science **_Studio / Workspace_** Space A:One bedroom (5×3 meters) + studio (4×4 meters) for one artist or a duo artists. This space has two separate spaces (sleeping and working) one next to the other.This space is suitable for artists working in media that do require a separation between studio and sleeping area. Space B and Space C: One big bedroom/studio (5 x 6 meters). These two spaces are suitable for artists working in media that do not require a separation between studio and sleeping area. Each place has basic furniture to offer the artist the chance to be inspired and work freely. **_Fees and support_** Each of the three spaces (A and B and C) cost 550 EUR per month (or the equivalent in MXN or USD) per month.We cover all general services (electricity, gas, internet, water) and we support the artist in the logistics, as much as the communication of the final event. NOTE: In case of a duo sharing a studio, you will have to submit information and there will be an extra fee of 150 EUR per month (or the equivalent in MXN or USD). **_Expectations towards the artist_** We encourage artists to work on a site-specific project or social topics. At the end of their stay, they will have the chance to do a final exhibit/event.
